mistake mayhem
Objective
To get rid of all your cards by playing matching cards into the play pile. The first to win two rounds is the overall winner.
Set up
Shuffle the cards and place one card face up in the middle of the table, this is the play pile.
Deal the remaining cards out, these are the players draw piles.
Place the Pear in the centre of the table.
Each player takes the top six cards from their draw pile, this is their hand.
how to play
Shuffle the cards and deal 6 to each player face down. Distribute the remaining cards evenly between players to make their own draw piles. Start each round by wobbling the pear, tilt it to one side and let it go. The pear rock side to side for 25-40 seconds depending on the surface.
Turn over the top card of the draw pile face up to make the play pile. Whilst the pear is rocking, all players must try and match their cards with the card showing face up on the play pile, by either colour or item or number.
There is no turn order, so try to be quick! Anyone can call out and place a matching card from their hand onto the play pile. e.g. if both cards have avocados they say “Avocados!”
Once the card has been placed, the following match must be different to the previous match. For example, if ‘three’ is called and played, the following card can only match by item or colour. Any mistakes result in a two card pick up, so be careful!
For three or more players, no-one can play two cards in a row.
In a two player game, more than one matching card can be placed one after another. If no-one can play a card, players can agree to call ‘Flip’ and place a new card from the draw pile onto the play pile.
pear shaped
If a player matches identical cards, they must shout “Pear Shaped” instead of colour, item or number. All the other players must then try to grab the rocking pear. The player who grabs the pear first, then chooses who must pick up a two card penalty (excluding the player that called ‘Pear Shaped’). The player holding the pear starts the timer wobbling again and turns the next card over from the draw pile to continue the game.
In a two player game, both players try to grab the rocking pear. The player who doesn’t grab the pear picks up two cards from the draw pile as a penalty.
time out
When the pear stops wobbling, all players must point at the pear. The last player to do so picks up two cards from the draw pile. They then start the timer wobbling again and turn the next card over from the draw pile to continue the game.
picking up two cards
Every time a player makes a mistake they have to pick up two cards from the draw pile. If they have played an incorrect card, they must also pick that card back up.
common mistakes
Calling out the same match twice.
Playing a card that doesn’t match the previous card.
Not calling ‘Pear Shaped’ correctly.
Grabbing the pear at the wrong time.
Pointing at the pear before it stops wobbling.
